Canadian Business Immigration Program
The Canadian Business Immigration Program designed to help promote and develop Canada’s economy by attracting entrepreneurs, the self-employed, businesspersons and investors. We process applications for the following business streams:
Start Up Visa Program:
Start up visa (SUV) program provides resources and business support to immigrant entrepreneurs to grow their companies in Canada. Successful applicants connect with Canadian designated organizations that provide them funding, guidance and expertise in opening and operating their business in Canada.
Unlike other Canadian business streams, SUV focuses on a support mechanism provided by Canadian designated organizations that have years of experience in helping new businesses grow in Canada.
SUV is run by the federal government and those accepted can live anywhere in Canada. Candidates can initially come to Canada on a work permit supported by their designated organization before qualifying for permanent residence once their business is up and running.
There are three types of private-sector investor:
- Angel investor.
- Venture capital fund.
- Business incubator.
Owner Operator LMIA: This program is designed to bring entrepreneurs on a work permit so that they can set up and run their business. At the same time they can apply for their permanent residence along with their families. Here is a brief of the requirement:

- Minimum 51% ownership of a business
- Jobs for Canadians must be created
- Investment commitment should be at least C$250,000
- No Net Worth Requirement, no Source of Funds requirement
- No advertising
- Live anywhere in Canada (except Quebec)
Intra Company Transferee (ICT): This program is designed to bring executives and managers of an off-shore company on work permit so that they can open up a business in Canada, e.g. a subsidiary or a branch. Here is a brief of the requirement:
- No minimum investment
- Off-shore company and Canadian company must be in an ownership and control relationship
- Off-shore company must be able to afford setting up and supporting the company in Canada
- Off-shore Company must stay in business
- Additional key employees can also be transferred to Canada
- After 12 months on Work Permit, 200 points for Express Entry if business is big enough
- No LMIA required
- Live anywhere in Canada
Treaty Investors: This program is designed to bring investors from the following countries, including All European countries, including UK; US, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Viet Nam, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand. A summary of the requirements:

- No LMIA required
- No Company outside if Canada required
- Minimum investment of at least C$250,000
- Must show source of funds
- Can bring additional persons to work in the business who do not have to be current employees
- After 12 months on Work Permit, 200 points for Express Entry if business is big enough
- Live anywhere in Canada
Self-Employed Program: This program is designed for people who are capable of creating their own employment, by contributing to the economic growth of Canada. People with sufficient funds and relevant work experience can apply for the Self-Employed Program. The self-employed applicant must demonstrate the intention and ability to establish a business that will create employment for himself and that will make a significant contribution to the Canadian economy. Here is a summary of the requirement:
Minimum two years’ relevant experience within five years of applying in one of the following:
- Cultural activities
- Athletics
- Purchase and management of a farm
Provincial business program: There are many provincial programs available for those entrepreneurs and investors who would like to be established in the province. Each province has its own requirements.
